A Passion for Property Tax
Michael has spent the last decade practicing law at the largest and most reputable law firms in the Pacific Northwest. He has honed his craft and sharpened his legal skills — fighting for taxpayers on appeal, drafting helpful legislation, educating the public, and helping taxpayers obtain enterprise zone, non profit and renewable exemptions.
Michael started his law firm to focus on property tax law, an area that he loves and which he’s been involved for two decades. He has developed his practice into something he truly values.
“I recognize I can better serve my clients by focusing on the areas of law that I am passionate about and offering flexible and tailor made solutions that my clients deserve”

Services
Exemptions & disqualifications
County and State assessors increase property taxes by denying, reducing, and disqualifying charitable organizations, farms, and businesses in enterprise zones from their rightful tax exemptions.
My clients are able to take advantage of the exemptions to which they are entitled. I do this by using my understanding of how businesses and charitable organizations function to determine which property should be exempt and which exemption best fits their needs.
Property tax Appeals
Properly contesting an over-assessment requires a technical level of knowledge of the complicated property tax laws in each state & deep understanding of valuation theory & methodology.
Assessors are often wrong about property values due to their over reliance on mass appraisal techniques, which fail to properly consider the unique characteristics of your property.
Prior to practicing law, Michael spent 10 years working as a commercial appraiser. He uses that experience to his client’s advantage by applying it to the labyrinth of property tax laws and valuation theory.
Transactional & Development planning
I advise my clients on the full spectrum of state and local tax issues faced when making purchasing and development decisions. I help companies navigate the constantly changing and more complex rules, laws, and jurisdictional politics. By providing upfront advice about potential tax consequences, clients can often reduce their property tax burden and get the deal done or development completed.
